Past Lives in Paint

I have 3 children, a 7 year old and 2 year old twins.
When my oldest was younger she never said anything that hinted that she remembered past lives but as she got a bit older and she took an interest in painting it began to come out more.
Her most recent and most obvious painting was one where she had a man driving a cart with a horse, he had a big smile on his face. In the back was a person with very dark skin and black hair with their arms in the air. Attached to the first cart was a second with another dark skinned person with black hair with their arms in the air. I wondered if she had had a past life during slavery.
As always I asked her to tell me about her picture and she explained, "Oh, that's just a man taking those children for a ride, they aren't very happy but they are pretending to be."
I will try and get a picture of her painting up.

She doesn't say things often but when she does it's quick and she will never delve deeper into it. My MIL is a Native healer and had a friend over to help her build a sweat lodge. My daughter loves helping with lodges and always seems to know what to do. My MIL brought her friend over to assist in blessing our house and when he was out of earshot afterwards she said, without looking up from what she was doing, watching after him sadly, "He was my dad once." I don't come out and ask her to repeat herself I ask things like, "What did you look like then?"or "Where did you live when that happened?" but she refused to talk about him.
I have a feeling it was a turbulent relationship that she wished had gone better.

There is more but it was all on my computer before it crashed and needed a new hard drive.
Any thoughts?

Hi Tierany, and welcome to the Forum!

You are so very fortunate to have a child who is learning to express herself through art, for it is such a rich vehicle for expression that cannot be outdone by speech, for it reaches into a part of the soul in ways that bypass the physical brain. It may be abstract and difficult to interpret, but it is still more direct.

Welcome Tierany!

Sounds like you're daughter does remember things, even if she is shy to talk about them. Be patient, and keep listening, you never know what she might tell you!

I'd love to see that painting Tierany. It is interesting to contemplate that art of young children may be memory of a past life. I think that this could be studied to find out more information and evidence for reincarnation. The details in the painting seems amazing the way you describe it.

I think that is an amazingly detailed drawing, and I think for your daughter to draw this and describe the scene at her age is also remarkable. I can seen the yoke which goes from the wagon to the horse; that is very accurate. Also the wagons appear like ones used on farms in the 19th century, with wooden rails. I wonder if any research has been done in this area of children's art and past life memory? That would be an interesting area to investigate and could well shed some light on the subject.

You might want email the story and drawing to Dr. Jim Tucker at the University of Virginia. He is the successor to Dr. Ian Stevenson, who pioneered research on children's past life memories beginning in 1958.

Thanks argonne1918 I will definitely do that, she has a lot going on in her head.

There is a local author here who is writing his second book on past life regressions and he is quite taken with my daughter's art, so he and his facilitator might be interested in exploring the memory/art relationship.

That would be even better. Maybe he will be able to get more information from her. Maybe he would like to include her story and drawing in a future book.
