Person died after I was born

I am convinced that I am a reincarnation of my uncle who died two years after I was born. Is this possible?

It depends on what you mean by "reincarnation", and by "after".

As I understand, it isn't that we (these conscious us) reincarnate, but that whatever has incarnated into us had been incarnated into others, and will incarnate into others. I also understand that consecutive incarnations could be anywhere in time: previous, subsequent or contemporaneous with each other.

Why do you think you and your uncle are incarnations of the same "whole self" (that's the term I generally use for the whatever that reincarnates).

Hi Alex, I've often thought about this same thing. I wonder if time has any relevance to the migration of souls. I personally don't think so, I believe the whole "beyond" is far more complex than our mortal minds of gray matter and bones can comprehend. I would not worry about this time discrepancy, instead, think about that past life as your uncle and learn from it. I was once my great-grandfather and the tendencies, traits, and memories are sometimes very vivid. I see them as a wave of creation that I'm fortunate to know and struggle to understand. Despite the sadness and suffering then (1900s), sometimes I'm overwhelmed by the beauty of it all. Thanks for your posting. ~Tman

Given what I know based on the experience of others, I think this is entirely possible. I believe Dr. Ian Stevenson and his protege Dr. Jim Tucker have encountered cases where they say one soul has replaced another in the body of someone of a very young age. This can be voluntarily or by force, according to their case. And why not? Time doesn't exist on the other side, and many things are possible that would boggle our human minds.

My uncle Billy (my father’s brother) was murdered just under a year before I was born. He was allegedly a victim of mugging whilst on business in the Caribbean; although the murder was never properly investigated. He was 33 years old and unmarried.

There are several reasons why I think that my uncle and I are the same ‘whole self’.

I have blue eyes and black hair like my uncle. My father had brown hair and brown eyes. My mother and my two siblings have blond hair and blue eyes. My father’s sister has blond hair and blue eyes. As far as I am aware none of my grand-parents have the blue/black combination. My paternal Grandmother is no longer with us but Granddad says that she had brown hair, and he thinks she had blue eyes. (How can he not know for sure what colour her eyes were – they were married for thirty years!). So, my Uncle Billy is the only member of my family that I share this quite rare genetic combination with.

Secondly, my uncle had a business as a regimental tailor. That is someone who works as a tailor repairing and altering military uniforms. He was an expert tailor. I am also a competent seamstress and have a small business running a vintage clothes shop. I frequently have to alter clothes to suit customers’ requirements. However, as a child I was never taught to sew or use a sewing machine. I was always interested in making clothes for my dolls, etc but was given no encouragement by my family. When I started my business I was using a modern electric sewing machine, however I was given an old fashioned treadle (mechanical) machine, which I find much easier to use. My uncle would have used a very similar machine in his business.

Finally, although I have had several dejavou experiences, there are none that I can say are definitely related to anything that connects them to my uncle. However, I do have a very clear recurrent dream which might relate to an experience that he had. In my dream I was watching a military tattoo. I told my Mum about the dream and she said that she had never taken me to an event like that and would never do so because she disapproved of these militaristic events. Whereas the highlight of Uncle Billy’s year was the Royal Tournament at Earls Court in London and he went every year as a special guest of one of the competing regiments.

My mother was convinced that I had been my own great-grandmother. We certainly shared some specific physical similarities and also similarities in life events.
I never agreed on that, no matter how much my mother didn't want to listen to me. The physical can be explained by genetics, and the life events: well, I choose to be born in a family of strong women. I choose to be born in a place where I could flourish with my own set of skills (that happened to coincide with other family members like my great-grandmother.

I think that such hypotheses / questions / curiosities could be addressed through self or guided regressions. This way one could also find out if there is any meaning that should be taken in consideration now, in this life.

My belief and approach are to look intuitively at the events and situations that draw my attention, and not rely exclusively intellectually and / or emotionally. Intuition means accessing one's inner and psychic senses, and it shouldn't be confused with guessing, feeling, wishing, imagining, or such.

Sorry I checked the dates properly and it was only 11 months between the actual date of his murder and my birth.

In my opinion and experience having been out of the body off and on over the many years it is too soon for an average soul to incarnate into the physical plane so soon. If the soul was at an infant or primitive stage of soul development perhaps. However, most people living in a modern society today are at a young, mature and old soul stage of soul development. In this case most people that translate from the physical plane need time on the higher dimensions of our universe to work out their karma and reap the benefits of their heaven life there. The lower ego must fully realize all its full potential in these higher dimensions and live out the hopes, dreams, aspirations and spiritual realizations that where not realized while incarnated on earth.

In doing so the individual soul can then fully grasped the last lifetime just lived out. Once this is played out on the astral and mental planes can the soul make a decision if it will incarnate again. If so, then a new mental, astral and physical body along with a lower ego and personality will be created. At that point the seeds of karmic debt from the last lifetime that is stored within the soul body will be carried over into the new lower ego that will manifest itself into the lower dimensions. After the soul is born into the physical these seeds of karma are slowly released over time as the child starts to unfold and the physical and inner subtle bodies mature and grow.

Overall, it's a big undertaking to come here. with a lot of planning involved as it effects not only the individual soul but the other souls from its soul group which it belongs to as well. Kind of like actors in a play where everyone must know their character and lines as they interact between characters within the play itself.

You aren't alone in thinking this but no. I think it is having more to do with DNA and family spirits that reincarnate together at the same time as groups. You may have known him for many lifetimes.

Most of the people in my family have a ten year or so overlap with their past lives. I believe it's entirely possible as people are living longer lives and wanting to stay together as a family may involve being born in one life while another is at the near the end of theirs.

How does this happen? I'm not entirely sure, however they do say the soul doesn't fully connect with a young life until they are a bit older. It may be possible to split some energy off into the new life until the soul is ready to fully commit.

Interesting food for thought....

We discussed my question and reincarnation at the last Sangha meeting – very interesting discussion. The received wisdom was that it was possible for someone to be a reincarnation of some who had died after the infant was born. However, the time gap between the birth of the infant and the death of the older life would have to be short.
Baro-san suggets that I, “look intuitively at the events and situations”. Intuitively I know that there is a very strong connection between my soul and my deceased Uncle Billy. One of our group suggested that maybe Uncle Billy was still in the spirit world but somehow guiding me. One question that was raised was that, presumably I already had a spirit at birth, (not sure when a spirit enters an embryo/fetus/baby. When Uncle Billy’s spirit entered my infant state eleven months later, what happened to my original spirit? Is that somehow rejected and returned to the spirit world?

Here's my opinion.

The mystery of what constitutes a Soul is something that has alluded man for millennium. Through our life experience, in the myriad of ups and downs- in suffering and the tempering of our personality, we are graced with ideas as to the nature of Soul. Considering this, it is not entirely impossible that you and your Uncle are one and the same.

I have just read through this thread from the beginning. I realise that I have made a complete mess explaining the time difference between my birth and Uncle Billy’s murder. I need to clarify this. I was born 12th May 1996, Uncle Billy was murdered 15th March 1997. That is, Billy died 10m 3d after I was born. I don’t know what came over me! I am usually careful with my writing.
Maybe my spirit is as confused as me!(joke)
