Psychic readings etc important to past life research?

How many people would say yes?

I'd even wager to include "impressions" that most of us use to guide ourselves as a psychic phenomenon.

Has anyone ever experimented or successfully used any psychic or similar means as a mode of research?

I've mentioned previously about using tarot cards and other forms of divination, which play a big part in my searching for clues.

Although I believe that some Psychics can be profoundly accurate, and can provide insight to Past Lives; I strongly believe that whatever they say should not be taken to heart, unless their comments validate already existing memories. It has been my experience that anyone can call themselves psychic and anyone can claim that someone had been a German violinist during the First World War. But, if their claims don't already jibe with something you already know, one should be very wary. If, on the other hand, one loves classical stringed music, has the ability to pick up German language, and is interested in World War I, then one might suspect that the Psychic is truly psychic.

Regarding the use of Tarot Cards, I have learned to make some very accurate readings for acquaintances, but I never thought to lay the cards out in reference to Past Lives. That is an interesting notion. The only problem with Tarot Cards is that I have never been able to find anything out by reading for myself. Perhaps, some people are able to read themselves, but I have never been able to.

I'm a strong believer in validation though. An impression or set of readings with continuity consistency is telling, but I believe in the most practical sense it's worthless without actual validation.

That may or may not be possible for some people and that's all they have to go on, which in that case I believe there needs to be some sort of alignment between the impressions. But still, I think one should strive for actual validation when possible.

I guess, I have it easy since I do my own readings though..

HI Totoro,

I am a strong believer in validation as well, but with the caveat that the validation come from within myself. Even with the use of the Tarot, visions, or any other type of psychic tool, it's important to go within for our own answers.

Last year at a party, a mystical woman told me about my past lives. While some of her impressions were correct about certain issues, those issues were universal to many people I know. Also, I recall some of what she said about my past lives, but not enough for me to believe what she said was true for me. However, I believe her efforts were sincere and that I could have lived those past lives, but I tend not to think so.

I've had two different people (independently of each other- one was a psychic; the other one, my boyfriend, was doing a past life regression mp3 and I asked him to "see" my lives instead) tell me I had been a paratrooper in WWII.

What was the same: I was older (late 20s to 30), baggy uniform (as paratroopers had), it was hot, summer, saw palm trees, had two buddies.

The psychic had MUCH more information, which was very detailed. Here's what was correspondingly different between the two cases: Hair color (dark blond vs. black, but under a sweaty helmet, who could tell?), name ("Charlie" vs. "Jack"- though my boyfriend wasn't sure about the latter). Still, I was also impressed that the rest matched up, especially since he'd never tried "seeing" for anyone else before, and I purposely told him nothing other than "check WWII."

Susie,

What you and night train are saying I absolutely agree with. How something just feels is the most important tool you have to work with.

Maybe I'm being over analytical and i also have the convenience of my most recent past life being fairly well documented, but for me, I like to be able to know how close I was to the mark with my feelings.

I guess you could say I'm looking at it scientifically in that the feelings are internal validation and then being able to find some evidence to support those feelings would be external validation. And by comparing the two, you can gauge the amount of error in your feelings or readings.

I wasn't trying to discount personal feelings, I apologize if I gave that impression.

A quick example though is that I've been doing readings with my father from my previous life. In one of them, after I had asked who he was, he suddenly became very nervous that since I had found out who he was, I wouldn't want to talk to him again. After that I was able to find a document that said at one point I was extremely unhappy and cursed my father for ruining my life. So in that case, I would consider the reading validated.

In another I did, I was told he was disappointed that I seemed to be repeating the same patterns as I had in my previous life. In this life, I had a great difficultly getting along with my parents and I just assumed that was what he meant. However, in the same document as mentioned above, I found that my previous family was actually very loving and supportive, up to a point later in their lives.

I would say that the reading was maybe 50% validated in that maybe yes, I have carried over some of the strife from the last part of my previous life an found a similar pattern at the start of this one. But more specifically, I think he was referring more to the cycles of blaming self that I seem to be carrying out in this one.

I think that 50% error actually came from me wanting to project the problem rather than admit I was mired in self loathing. However in itself, it was one of the major finds that sort of erased the emotional carryover of blaming myself..

Pixarfan, i'm a bit confused, your boyfriend was doing the regression but talking about you? I was under the impression that the one undergoing the regression would be talking about themselves.. is that correct?

I don't trust most psychics, especially those found at psychic fairs. If I have a reading done there, it's with the understanding that it's all in fun. Too many I've encountered can read what a person wants to hear and, like gypsy fortune tellers of old, lay it out on the table for the rubes by whatever means they are best skilled at, be it the Tarot, crystals, pendulums, or what have you.

However, psychic readings by a true psychic who has more than the bank account on the mind can be useful tools for heading in a particular direction moreso than a dead-on answer, IMO. For myself, I relied in the past on the personal references of family members. My great-grandmother was rumored to be one of the best tea-leaf readers in Yavapai county, and such things were passed on to girls in the family who showed the gift for it, who would pass the teaching on in their turn. These were the people I would go to for readings and they were a tremendous help in sorting out my teen years.

I read the Tarot, but haven't done so for a long time. I have two decks; one is my personal deck (it fell off a shelf and hit me in teh shoulder, so I bought it), the other belonged to a friend of mine who made a horrible mistake and is now sitting on Death Row. The last reading I did was a past-life reading for my brother that didn't come through as clearly as I had hoped.

I have only had one experience with psychic readings from someone else pertaining to past lives, and it had shyster written all over it. What she "saw" was clearly an ego-stroking attempt to get me into her office for a more intensive reading. It clashed violently with what I already felt too deeply. (Seriously, a ninja? Pfft! A samurai I would have believed, but not a ninja.)

However, a Cambodian woman approached my father while we were walking from the car to a coffee shop. My mother had died two seasons prior. This woman came up out of nowhere, a sad look on her face and a small green Buddah in her hands. She told my dad "Your loss is only temporary. You will be together again, as you have always been before and always will be." She gave him the Buddah. My dad has since passed on, but we still have the Buddah somewhere among his stuff.

Totoro, whenever you post in good faith as you have on this subject, you need never apologize for anything. You opened a very good thread, which deserves considerable discussion. When someone replies with additional information or opinions, I feel that it is meant only to complement rather than contradict. I would be the first to admit that my opinions as a Moderator would mistakenly be viewed as assertions of authority or dogmatic belief, which couldn't be further from the truth. My intention is not to come into any discussion as an authority, so please accept my opinions only as a fellow member who wishes to add to your thread.

understood  Its mostly cause i'm new though and haven't gotten to know the forum or everyone yet and just want to make sure I don't slight anyone accidentally. :D

My encounter with a psychic

A few years ago I was really at my wit's end after just having discovered the possibility of having lived a fairly famous past life. Even though I was totally broke I figured I could scrape up $25 to talk about it with *somebody* (this was just before I joined this forum, which has helped me a lot). I didn't tell the psychic who I thought I might be, but I did say I thought I kept getting "clues from the universe" (various synchronicities) that I might have been someone relatively well-known. I asked whether or not I might have been deceived into thinking this way. She said yes, definitely. I asked, by who? (I actually have some idea about who might want to discredit me politically) And she said "the world." (What kind of answer is that??? If it was my own fragile ego, I could accept that, but ... her particular answer seems meaningless)

"Why?" I asked. She couldn't answer me. Then I asked who *she* thought I might be in a past life, and she couldn't answer me on that point, either. So even though I can certainly see why she would say what she did, it was obvious that I was kind of wigged-out about being this person and the chances that anyone is a famous person are always very slim, I'd say it was far more helpful for me to have joined this forum. Plus it didn't cost me a dime!

Totoro,

I did not get the impression that you are trying to discount personal feelings, but that you are simply sharing your truth. That is what discussion is about. :)

Documentation of past lives is one of the greatest validations there is. However, wherever documentation is not possible, then it's important to trust our own impressions. For me, validation would not come from what someone else tells me about my past life unless I had those same memories. A greater validation would be able to remember a past life with someone close to me and for us to share our experiences of the same.

A quick example though is that I've been doing readings with my father from my previous life. In one of them, after I had asked who he was, he suddenly became very nervous that since I had found out who he was, I wouldn't want to talk to him again. How wonderful you have someone in your life now from a past life who you can talk to about reincarnation and both past/present life issues. It sounds like your are receiving great validation from this relationship.

Previously, he was listening to a past life regression mp3 and had seen his own past lives with it. (When I listened to it, it didn't work for me.) I asked him to listen to the mp3 again, and instead of viewing his own lives, asked if he could try "seeing" mine instead. It actually seemed to work.

Over the years, I've come to rely on both deep meditation and use of the Original OM CD. Using this as a foundation, I've researched several past lives to my satisfaction. Often I'm helped by some other person who is able to see connections that I overlook.

I have had tremendous success with akashic readings...both from readers and from my own ventures into the records...and with amazingly accurate validation from talented psychics with whom there is no monetary reward for positive results . One is a friend and another a friend and neighbor and my akashic reader is another friend...I come up with my own impressions through dreams, visions, meditations, akashic readings and then ask blind questions of my psychics and readers to validate them...I am always amazed and impressed with the results. They have helped me get to know my guidance and myself and provide me reassurance that what I am sensing is valid and understandable. To me they are a great0 asset to my efforts at learning who I am.

that's mainly what i'm after is the validation. i suppose it's to our credit (seekers in general) that we seek it.

I think a large part of the reason I've had so much trouble with my research im doing now is that so much of it was present in my current life and I was worried I was simply fantasizing.

so in that regard the validation has helped quite a bit.

Call me cautious, call me mis-trustful, call me doubting, but I've preferred not to get information (as in validation) from another person, but instead from myself, usually in dreams.

You, Sir, are free to pursue whatever works for you, and in your case, the information may be just as accurate as mine :)

I first started dreaming as a child, and quickly learned the difference between good and bad dreams, then throughout this mix was the Past Live dreams (although I didn't call it that) but made up some childish word.

I didn't dare tell my grown-ups about these dreams, where I grew up was considered the Bible Belt, and Reincarnation was frowned upon (and still is!)

I continued throughout childhood to the present, to have these personal dreams, of being in places I had never been to in this lifetime and being in an Adult body (as a child.)

Any information that you get, no matter how you get it, that stands the test of truth and satisfies you is a good candidate for validation, and good luck with your research!

I've had a medium really come to my help with a dream I had and she picked up on stuff that was a 'one in a million' shot - for example, she got the name 'Olivia' and that was a HAPAG ship I had served on. The thing is, this ship is hardly known in the historical information about me...and she didn't get it from my site or anything like that.

As far as tarot and such - I don't do that sort of thing. I tried pendulum stuff for a short time using a makeshift pendulum but I gave up on that as that's just not for me.

I typically wind up with 'validations' through odd coincidences...they happen despite my not seeking them.

Oh, I won't entirely rely on psychics. There are a lot of conman out there. Almost everyday, it is reported some people are duped by these 'psychics' for more than 100K, in my newspaper, that is. But most genuine psychics will not ask for 10K or more. Some would even do it for free.

I had a psychic who talked to my family last year. He gave my mother a Bagua mirror, to repel negative energy, he says. And it was only 10$ (20 since my mother bought 2). I swore that dude stared at me when he said 'negative energy'... Due to that, not much items break in the house due to my negative energy...

Those are the ones I've found most helpful - people in spiritual groups/boards offering their services, typically for free - but some offer discounted prices. All the help I've gotten was for free thankfully because being on a fixed income and shouldering all the financial responsibilities - I have neither the time nor patience to deal with 'people of questionable character'. In fact, there was a healer whom I was referred to by another walk-in soul and I had asked this healer to help with removing etheric cords/connections and this person would not do it so I dropped them like the proverbial 'hot potato' and went to someone whom I knew would help me out and they did no questions asked.

I have no patience for such people who won't respect me - I'm not here to 'mess around'. I have a lot on my plate as far as my health, and other responsibilities - if there is a job I want done, I either do it myself if possible, or I connect with someone whom I know will help and not 'mess around' with me.

I recently read elsewhere of people who desire information potentially available from a psychic and being completely disappointed in what they received, to the point they adamantly brand all psychics as quacks.

I am asking here to find if those of you who have spoken to a psychic found them at least somewhat accurate, and as a whole, what level of accuracy would you say has been your experience with psychic?

In my case, I have had a few that were a little sketchy, and when a session begins that way it seldom gets better...they seem to be looking for verification constantly and I don't get a very clear sense they "see" me. My primary experiences though, have been marvelously insightful. I tend to live in my head alot and events I encounter are mentally spun around and all potential outcomes are analyzed. With that, it has been my practice to review those events, and my analysis, with a psychic to a) see how close I was, and b) get set straight if I was way off. Naturally, I was shocked at how far off my first efforts at resolving those events were, but over time I have learned better ways of more effectively analyzing those events by discussing them with the psychic.

I think the key to a psychic's effectiveness is simply that there are some people we sense some level of connection to moreso than with other people...likewise, I believe that connection between people makes a better psychic connection and thus a better, more productive psychic session. I feel all psychics have some level of ablity to follow a non-standard (not one of the five sense) thread of energy, some psychics simply have a better ability to see it with particular people with whom they have some sense of connection.

I frustrated a psychic once because I wouldn't answer her questions of verification. I put on my best poker face and let her read the "threads". She would ask things like "Does that sound like someone you know?" To which I would mutter "I'm not sure," as if I was thinking. You could see the disappointment in her face, but I had warned her that I was a card reader, I just had trouble reading for myself. I did tell her afterwards that she had a few good 'hits' in her reading and thanked her for her help.

Myself, when I would do readings, my biggest challenge was getting the supplicant to shut up. As soon as I would read one card, many would start rattling off like they were a Chatty Cathy doll and someone had just pulled the string! It's part of why I stopped reading for anybody I didn't consider a good friend.

Overall my experience with psychics is a mixed bag. When I seek them out, it's hit or miss. But sometimes they come up to me, like the Smoki medicine woman who sought me out when I was in 1st grade and told me some things about myself that have panned out throughout my life, even when I was actively trying not to have some happen!

I have had readings from four different Psychics. Two have been accurate and one was off the mark. The fourth was reasonably recent and it is still too early to comment on her readings.
