Why is the Forum so Quiet . . .

This is another "Elephant in the room" so to speak. I think a lot of folks have noticed it, and some I've PM'd with have mentioned it and/or commented on it. However, no one has commented on it in a post (that I know of). I've seen some quiet days over the years I've been posting here, but never anything as quiet as the board has been, generally speaking, since sometime close to the beginning of this year. I'm at a loss here. The questions this board is intended to answer are still affecting people every day. Maybe I am just noticing what has been a long-term trend coming to fruition. Maybe, like a lot of things, folks now have so many sources to choose from that they can get basic information elsewhere. However, I don't know of anywhere else that actually provides a general forum like this for speaking to others, some of whom are fairly knowledgeable. Anyhow, I'm just curious to get other folks ideas on this.

It's the virus, Bro.

The folks get so disconcerted by all these lockdowns, curfews, mask controls, etc., that their perception of the reality changes.

The virus is ubiquitous. Even if I die promptly (by age), I'll be reborn to the same pandemonium of vaccinations, PCR tests, green passports etc.

Put simply, no escape.

And not only forums are affected: personal electronic exchanges are harmed, too. Even phone connections: some people are afraid to call their friends for fear they'll know of changes too drastic and negative.

For me it is that no one is posting anything that reaches out to me while on other platforms like reddit for example the quality died big time due to bot like normies shutting down deeper discussion on interesting topics. Youtube is so so while many so called content creators are trying like hell to scrape money off the user base through spamming ads and selling junk with click bait videos.

Hi Cyrus,

I tend to believe that you are correct and though you don't mention it specifically I think you have one of the principle problems in mind: the uncertainties of the current situation. No one seems to know quite what to do next and what to expect.

We actually had a lot of traffic and a lot of commentary on the board in the initial phases of the virus and shut-down. This was not just concerning the virus, it was about all kinds of things. Then, everything was supposed to be opening up and we were supposed to be getting over the worse. At that point, I felt like participation was waning a bit as people began to stretch out and get back into outside activities. Then, along come new variants and new curfews. I can't help but feel out of sync. No one seems to be sure what is going to happen next, and everyone is tired of the curfews and shutdowns.

Perhaps it is weariness, but I think it is is also wariness. No one seems to know how to react. People seem startled and uncertain whether to move forward or pull back. Many people seem to be acting a bit like deer caught in the headlights: Frozen, uncertain whether to stay where they are, leap forward, or leap back.

I guess we will all adjust one way or another. However, for a bit of good news, I thought I would provide a link to this article, which discusses an even better vaccine on the horizon, done the old fashioned way with less side-affects and better coverage:

https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2021/06/novavax-now-best-covid-19-vaccine/619276/

I found this to be hopeful news. It looks like the "system" is working, even though it sometimes seems very slow.

I can't speak for others, but I haven't felt very talkative lately.
This has nothing to do with Covid.
(Maybe it has to do with the weather, had a migraine or was really tired often.)
A few people I knew died from cancer already, and even before I was aware that time spent with loved ones is precious. Yes, we may reincarnate together again, but still.
I have been more into my current life lately, including staying in contact with people either in person or via phone or skype when meeting them isn't possible.
I still check here daily. I just don't always know what to say. Also, somehow it begins to feel repetitive. Like I would sound like a broken record. So more often than not, when I don't feel like I have something constructive or helpful to say, I rather don't do the broken record.

I think you are right, Cyrus. Its the virus and the seemingly endless amounts of variants. I am tired. Everyone seems to be tired. Feels like we are just going though life with zero zest and liveliness. Frustration too at the politicization of simple health precautions like masks and vaccinations that seem to be prolonging the pandemic. I've been spending time on YouTube and since I downloaded AdBlockerPlus, have been enjoying ad free videos. The amount of ads on YouTube is another frustration.

We can't stop what is coming!

I honestly don't post a lot now because a lot of what I have to say is not in the depths of this forum. My past lives I feel are of no real importance to anyone, no one wants to know (or actually really cares) why I was murdered with my veil in Medieval Czechoslovakia, nor does anyone really want to know why I feel the Czechs celebrating Operation Anthropoid should be no big deal. In essence, I'm at peace with most of the things that happened in my past lives and I don't need to post it on a forum any more. I've moved past that stage, but I still come and frequent here every now and then to read and comment a little.

Australia is turning into a Fourth Reich, and at times I am pleased that I no longer live in Victoria or Queensland any longer. Don't believe me? Check this out. Already lived in one Reich and that was enough, and I am very lucky to live in a State where I still have my freedoms and can travel wherever I wish to within the state.

Alas, Eva,

Our PLs only matter to us, those who lived them.

A famous PL might interest some professional historian, maybe, but only formally, to fit into the schoolbooks, not from a person's point of view.

And most historians, nowadays, I'm afraid, don't believe in reincarnation, so it would never occur to them to use YOU as a source.

We bore people around us if we try to talk about our PLs, and it really looks rather ridiculous.

I knew a man (an Italian) once, who, divorced when already 50+ y.o., went as a tourist to China and fell in love there with a young Chinese girl 18 y.o. So, when in Europe, he could talk of nothing else. He maintained electronic contact with her (in English - and a rather rudimentary English at that) at all hours, and he showed his male friends the intimate photos of her she sent him - it didn't even look pathetic, but rather repulsive. At last she came to Europe to marry him, and he still believed she did it for love (he no longer does).

He was really convinced that his story was super fascinating and he was very unpleasantly surprised to find out that nobody else shared his opinion.

I always recall this case when I get an impulse to tell somebody about my PL - and fortunately, I stop in time not to make myself ridiculous.

It was an English writer who once wrote that most people only want to talk, and no one wants to listen. And it's bloody true.

IMHO.

Best wishes, and take care.

Hi Cyrus,

Mostly true, but not always true. For myself, I like to hear about history in the "gaps"--i.e., the type of things in people's lives and in history that is left out of the history books, either because it just has to do with ordinary folks, it wasn't recorded, it is unknown, or historians didn't consider it important enough to put in the books. What happened to the young Italian sailor in WWII that was you fits into that category.

I also like mysteries, such as when someone is trying to figure out the when/where of certain memories they have. Plus, when I can, I like to encourage people who are dealing with the traumas involved. But it is true that I generally find famous lives to be uninteresting, unless there are some things being reported that relate to the "gaps" or have to do with the issues that all face in trying to deal with their PL memories. I.e., the fact that someone reports a famous PL doesn't really pique my interest absent one of these factors.

Hi, S&S:

Of course that rule doesn't fit those who are not of the lot.

I assimilated that rule fairly early, when still a teenager (in the present life), and I also followed another similar rule, that I can always learn something useful from any person,
so it's always better to listen than to talk.

In this way I was much less disinterested than you.

Maybe that's why the spiritual stuff escapes me most of the times.

IMHO, as usual.

Best Regards

Seems like all forums I've joined have gone to sleep. FB and other means of conversation seem to have become more popular.

Hi Cyrus,

For some reason I am having trouble understanding what you are saying or seeking to convey in your last post to me. Could you clarify?

Cordially,

I would say, on the whole, people no longer expect to sit down and either maintain or sustain a prolonged conversation online. Forums cater to slower, more lengthy interaction where people have the ability to converse, explore topics and get to know one another.

I think, as pastrunr was saying, people have moved onto facebook, reddit and discord these days for interaction. Forums like this are just too slow for them I guess and I meant that in terms of the amount of time that can lapse between a post and a response.

On the other sites, the feed back / response is mostly instant and is not sustained over the long term. Many groups I've been in have been flooded with questions, asked by people that will never participate in the forum again. Most of them are just "noise" as well. Quasi motivational memes, selfies, dirty jokes and so on.

I'm not a hard core person, only wanting to talk serious details and such, but there's little actual congeniality in any of those places and they don't give one the ability to really get to know someone either.

I guess forums, news groups and so on are just old fashioned now. We've gone the way of the telephone! If you can imagine that. Everyone texts these days rather than talks.

Here’s a response I made on my forum last year that sort of touches on Totoro’s post above:

“Just like we started discussing in 2015/2016, FB, Twitter, Reddit, and around that same time, Tumblr, have all contributed to the fall of online forums.
Here’s a pretty good article that sums up how I feel: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.engadg ... g-off.html

I liked this excerpt:
I've been pondering what it might have been like to grow up on the internet if I were a teenager in 2020 and hadn't found my village. I might have been sucked even deeper into the unmoderated chaos of social platforms, where there's an unspoken expectation to act performatively instead of as our authentic selves.

When I ask people who used message boards in the past what they liked about them, one theme recurs: friendship.

“I don't talk to anyone from the board anymore but am Facebook friends with them,” says Pippa Lowthorpe, a 22-year-old who used to frequent Jrock Revolution, a forum about Japanese music. “I was a massive nerd and it was really nice to have this niche interest turn into so many friends.”

I remember when LiveJournal started making updates to look more like Facebook and everyone there was enraged. When I moved to Argentina, I was determined to keep my blog going while also keeping my FB updated for family back home. Eventually, it was too time consuming to keep both, and I started not posting to LJ at all. Since I was basically uploading the same content and if someone was a very good LJ friend, they were in my FB anyway, it seemed illogical to keep both going.
The thing with forums though, is that I’m *not* posting the same content. I love the anonymity of the forums and how I can talk here without worrying about everyone I’ve met in my entire life knowing about it.”

To think one has been through all the above only to end up in another country that has devolved into this. As for my own I doubt that it will last the decade unless by some miracle or by God's grace doesn't get blown up.

From my viewpoint, a lot of forums started to become quiet around 2015/2016, around the same time that FB introduced Groups. I guess a lot of people just started to use one platform for all their online interactions (FB), with specialised topics in Groups, rather than multiple webforums for each topic. Of the few forums I have been a member of since that time, one has permanently shut down, a few others have become considerably quieter (including here), and only one has somehow survived (possibly because it has a large photo reference library which is a significant part of the forum and which makes it a little more 'unique' as forums go), although even that one is fraying around the edges.

For me, FB groups have their place, but they can't ever quite replicate or replace the feel of a forum like here. I remember back in 2013 there could be dozens of members online at once, with threads being updated almost continually. But I guess times change and the way people interact with the digital realm changes too.

Personally I have a lot to do, either studying or playing games with my friends. Haven’t had enough time to myself and exploring who I am even though I wish I could have that time again. I do not have many memories to share for now. I do hope to come back during the holidays.

For me it’s a time of the year when I’m usually much busy and focused on current life only. During summer I either have to work more, filling in for my boss or co-workers who are on vacation, or I’m on vacation myself or spending much time outdoors with summer activities.

I check here every few days to read new posts, but I don’t have the time to post much myself or I don’t know what I could contribute because I’m just not much into past lives and related topics right now. I hope to be more active in winter again. That’s usually a time when I feel most connected to my past lives anyway and when I have more time for reflection.

When I used to be here for a while because I was so interested in past lives because two of my brothers had birthmarks and I didn't have any. I was a bit upset so I had enjoyed here. I was completely interested in listening to some people having past lives. Then I kind of switch to Facebook for a bit and comic forum community.
I had forgot that I had an account on here for a minute and I was so busy with other things.
Now that I had a past life experience of me being a Super soldiers in my meditation and I want to see if there are other people too.
