Memory Triggers

Triggersdifferent things act as triggers for people.

One of the original questions asked in that thread was:
Has anyone else had 'triggers' --that have brought on memories from a past life?

The city where I live has a very unique sound to it during a storm. Several times my memories of Italy have been triggered by thunder and lightning storms.

One evening I was standing at the window looking out -- and I could see flashes of sheet lightning illuminating the sky -- sometimes seven or eight practically right on top of one another. It was almost dark out but you could see the outline of low lying clouds in the distance. They appeared to touch the rooftops of the houses. When the lightning lit them up from behind -- and the thunder clapped and crackled -- I was no longer in my living room. I was instantly standing in the dirt in the side garden in Italy -- barefooted and drenched by the rain. There were explosions off in the distance and my father was screaming for us to get inside the house. I felt paralyzed -- completely rooted to the spot. I could smell rain -- feel it on my skin as it hit. I could hear the explosions -- my father screaming my sister's and brother's names. I could feel someone pick me up and carry me from where I stood.......

Several times, storms have also triggered memories of my death -- as has the sound of airplanes flying overhead.

I am curious to hear more of your triggers. Has anything given you a flash back or a glimpse into one of your past lives?

Hi Aili,

I missed your post last week and thought I would join you . :) The other day I did a meditation and in the experience I was churning butter in the south with a wooden churn.

One of my favorite things is butter - real butter. To me it is a delicacy. I know -we can walk into any store and buy it now - but there was a time when we worked hard for the butter. I have to say it tasted better then, it isn't special to people now...but it is to me. : angel

As a slave I wasn't allowed to have any -or just very little. Sometimes when I butter my bread..there is a cozy feeling -of the old ways and the specialness of real home churned butter.

You know I watch a lot of programs on History International and when I see any program that shows Roman ruins in Africa it sparks a glimpse of "something". It happens so fast but it always happens. About six months ago I was meditating and found myself in a stone building on the second floor. Open on all sides with steps leading from the second floor to the ground outside. There was a roof held up by four or five columns.

Funny thing happened yesterday, I saw another program and it said that the second floor of these buildings was usually reserved for women. Not sure if that is any kind of validation or not but I thought it was important!

I'm not sure if this belongs here, but here goes anyway:

Last summer I was reading a book that described women working with fish - they had to prepare it for drying (?). I felt disgusted reading those parts of the book, and very strongly that I have been forced to do that kind of thing in a PL - I mean for a living for my family. I don't know where or when, but reading the vivid descriptions definitely triggered something.

Something happened yesterday which triggered a past-life memory. It was a first for me as i'd never really experienced anything like this before.

I was at a friends house and playing with my goddaughter. Her mother had bought her a Doll Styling Head (I'm sure you all know what they are, for those of you who don't, it's a plastic female head and shoulders, designed for children to play make-up and hairstyling etc.)

Now (honestly) i'm not ashamed to admit that I had to have a play with it myself..:o (to amuse my goddaughter of course)..: angel I colored the eyes in and started playing with her hair. I was doing this for a few seconds, when suddenly I was transported back to another time. I was in Lisbet's bedroom (I was Lisbet in my previous life). I was looking in the mirror and I could see her/me looking back, and I was making plaits in my own hair.

I was distracted from this "flashback" by the voice of my friend asking me if I was okay. I snapped out of the memory and looked down, and discovered that i'd made a perfect plait on the doll head..:butbut:

I'll also add that i've never plaited hair in my present life..

Chris..;)

Too cute for words Chris!

There are so many things I do that trigger things for me it is hard to know where to begin, but this is a nice one.

I ride a motor bike (which always recalls horse riding to me, but is less bumpity) and some mornings I ride over a hill and there is a large sporting ground surrounded by fluttering flags in the middle distance which looks no end like a castle. I am not sure what the exact details of the memory are but it certainly involves riding over a hill on horseback with a large company of men and seeing a similar view on a fine morning with a heart full of excitement and anticipation and courage. We were all coming to someone's rescue to break a seige or something. I think I was probably quite young and this might have been my first 'real battle' that life. It just makes my heart lift every time I ride by that way, particularly if it is a fine sunny morning.

I am a bit reluctant to find out exactly what it is all about, because I kind of enjoy that feeling of exhilaration as it is, and most of my memories, particularly from that era, tend to end in blood and tears and I doubt this one is any different. It always gives me a lift as it is.

Yes me:thumbsup: . Well one day I was reading a book about past lives and meditation and in that moment I wasn't in my room anymore:eek:. I was like in Japan or China, I was in a beautiful garden, with cherry trees. In the garden there was a young woman with a beautiful pink/white/red kimono she was playing a Kyoto ( I think that's the word) she was playing a very sad song:( . I could see myself, only my body, I had a blue kimono with white flowers.

This one happened weeks later. It was raining hard, I saw the same woman running towards a warehouse. I ran towards her, she grabbed me by my shoulders, she was hysterical, yelling at me, but I couldn't understand her because she wasn't talking in Spanish or English I think it was Japanese. I hugged her and told her that everything was going to be ok, but I could hear myself talking in Spanish, but I was really talking her language:eek:....

This one its different from the other, I was walking up some stairs because someone was calling me, I walk toward the attic I remember that I was saying "Daddy?". In that moment the door opened, it was a man, I didn't know him, he started to yell at me, he pushed me so hard that I fell to the floor breaking my neck. He ran downstairs, his face filled with horror. He grabbed my body( I could see myself, I was blond, white and i had a maroon dress). It was horrible, blood was pouring from the mouth. He hid the body behind a wall. I think no one found the body after all. I started to cry after that ended:(

Thanks for sharing, Thalia. :)

Do you have any idea where and when the latter memory could've taken place? How do you feel about the women in Japan - do you think they were friends or family members? Did they have warm or cold feelings towards each other?

Curiously,

Karoliina

Walking into little, out of the way, crammed used book stores!
I get such a feeling of joy there. Like Deborah's butter, to me. books are special and most people nowdays underappreciate them. I think my feeling when surrounded by books comes from having been denied access to them in one or more PL's.
I know I was probably illiterate before and or/denied the chance to read and learn. This life now I have no memory of not knowing how to read! I was a very young child when I learned.

So books and oh yes Mozart's "A Little Night Music" (Sorry I won't insult the German language by trying to spell the original :o ) That music feels me with undescriblable Joy.

Well, I was one of the japanese women the other one I feel that she was my sister. I had a dream that explained the situation better, I'll explain it in another topic:thumbsup

when i watch silent movies or 1920-30 movies on TURNER CLASSICS it triggers memories of dreams ive had before. some of the dreams are dreams ive had over a decade ago. most of the time im just paying attention to whats going behind the actors.i feel i know exactly what its like to live back then and know exactly what the area looks like. its the strangest feeling.

its 2:30 am right now and i cant go into detail but i believe i could of been movie star Antonio Moreno. hopefully i can log on soon and explain my story but im too tired right now.

antonio moreno laid to rest 1967- forest lawn glendale,ca

i was born 1969 glendale,ca- glendale memorial hospital

two streets west from forest lawn.

hopefully i can comeback soon and tell the other 90%.

WWII Concentration Camps

Hi All,

I've done some group PL regressions & have hopefully figured out some pieces & lessons of a few PLs.

But the subject here is Triggers. Anything to do w/ WWII concentration camps really affects me in a negative way. I feel nauseated & sweaty & have to leave the room. Basically, I can't watch anything about this topic on TV or read about it w/out becoming upset. Even when I've decided ahead of time that I'd like to see a certain movie, I usually can't last thru the whole thing.

Anything to do w/ human torture affects me adversely & won't leave my head. When someone I barely knew told a story about a specific WWII torture technique, that was all I could focus on for weeks while trying to fall asleep. Ghastly.

One friend who is a very good psychic also had camp memories that resonated w/ her. She felt she was a female political writer who was imprisoned for her work & that her current oldest daughter was w/ her then. When she told me her "story" -- well, nothing happened for me. It just stayed blank.

I was born in 1949 & have PL memories of going to war in WWI & dying soon after I got there. So that doesn't leave a lot of time for another life in between. However, the degree of fear & phobia I have around WWII camps leads me to believe that I did live & die during it. The intensity of my feelings also makes me fearful of working on this PL. Like if/when I uncover more about it, I'm not sure I can handle it, especially on my own.

Memory triggers? I have emetophobia (phobia of vomiting) because of a bad incident I had when I was 4, and the past life memory in the camps was triggered as there was so much sickness around me. I can't be around sickness and funny thing is, if I get sick I can handle it, but if my kids do, my husband has to take care of it.. I just simply cannot be around it.

My memory trigger that I had just mentioned may have been TMI, so sorry about that. But it's a fact! I am terribly emetophobic and it's because of that. I also want to talk about another memory trigger. And I got more insight on this life from a friend of mine who has mediumistic qualities. I had just finished reading that book about those two men that adopted that lion cub in the early 70's.. and in that book had a picture of the cub in a Moravian church. That small pictures flooded all kinds of memories, even though I have never been to *that* particular church, I knew back probably in the 1600's sometime that I was a Moravian minister, and my church looked like the one that was in the book. I was able to find out more about that life, as it was not a good one for me. Not going to go into details why, nothing gruesome happened but don't want to get controversial with this in anyway. Anyway it's amazing how even a small picture like what I saw can trigger a loadful of past life memories.

Three of the spontaneous past life recall experiences I have had were triggered by illustrations, which I happed to come across in various books. Two of the three occurred when I was four to six years of age. Thirty years later, I was able to attribute these two experiences to the life of Tsar Alexis. On one occassion I happened across an illustration for the fairytale the Snow Queen. It depicted a queen sitting well bundled in a sleigh. The next thing I knew, I was having a vision of myself riding horseback next to a sleigh in which a young woman was bundled, similar to the illustration. We kept exchanging looks and smiling at one another, as we proceeded along. I could actually feel the horse beneath me as it walked along. It is stange, but the visions for me are always acompanied with the physical sensations of the experience. The young woman and I were in a torchlight procession. We were making our way across the snow covered ground during the night. Years later, when reading the biography of Tsar Alexis, I recognised this as the wedding procession of Tsar Alexis, and his first wife, Maria, in 1648.

On another occassion, my mother happened to be reading a book to me about Christmas traditions from around the world. One of the countries it happened to mention was Russia. The illustration for Russia contained a depiction of St. Basils Cathedral. Just afterwards, I was getting ready to go bed, when I had the SPLR vision of Tsar Alexis'es attack on Ilya Miloslavky. The vision I had on that occassion is also detailed in the Tsar's biography.

The last SPLR vision I had; brought on by an illustration, occurred when I was in the 5th grade. I was reading my social studies book, when I came across an illustration of three forms of residential architecture that developed in the American South; a Dog Trot, a Shotgun House, and a Plantation House. As I was looking at the plantation, I suddenly had a SPLR vision in which I found myself in a house, similar to the plantation depicted in the illustration. The events which transpired during this particular vision, was significant in my discovering my lifetime as my own G-G-G Grandfather.

Things that have served as triggers for me are (esp. in the past): songs and places I feel I've been before, and more recently portraits of people I might have known and pictures of things I may have owned.

I love this thread.... it's always wonderful to stop for a moment and think about how this journey started for me...

People have been my most important trigger - there's something about their eyes (the expression in them) that doesnt seem change, life upon life. Places too - the way places "feel" to you. Smells and sounds, and also music.

Sometimes all these things combine together and trigger deep memories of very close bonds with people and places - as I write, I feel my heart swell with my undying, huge love for Wales...

Thanks for listening people... ;)

For years a trigger for me has been fire. Long before I knew anything about past lives, for example at a friend's bonfire party, I'd watch the fire and my mind would drift away. I would get visions of being burned. The next thing I know I'd be up at 2 or 3 in the morning looking up witches and heretics being burned at the stake on the internet.

Then when I started with past lives I saw a scene of being on trial. It was 16th century France and I was a young woman named Caroline. I was being accused of witchcraft (wrongfully accused of course ;) ). To make a long story short I was executed. The Church didn't believe in bloodshed. Burning was a much better option, thanks.

Being in planes at all is a huge trigger for me. Whenever I am on a plane or even near a plane the memories just come back in a wave. I remember crashing my plane, I remember the feelings I had around flying and how much I loved it, and basically just being around planes makes memories come back.

Another trigger is the sound of thunder or fireworks. I believe that I have been in many military lives and those sounds remind me of gunfire or bombs. I often have my memories triggered by those sounds.

A trigger song

Hi everyone,

I'd to share my last experience PL related and to know other's experiences:

I like to sing spontanously any song that it's in my head. I don't care much if people is around or if I'm shopping or working. I always sing as a sign of non-stress moment and joy:laugh:.

It happened that one of my client who I see 3 times at week asked me why I'm often singing the same song: Tchaikovsky - 1812 overture. I didn't realised until that moment that this song it has been in my in my head for many years. I started to recall one of my classmates asking me to shut up :) because it is a very "sticky" song and then he was singing it the whole day.

I immidately related that song with one of my past life in Russia, St Petersburg. But I couldn't find any other connection.

Does someone experienced something like that? Maybe not with music but any other similarity:rolleyes:.

Lizzi

Hi Lizzie!

I've had a somewhat similar experience. There's a tune I've always hummed to my children, which I always thought I had "made up". And well, perhaps I have - the funny thing is it doesn't change over the years, although it's rather long and elaborate. And a little too eerie for a lullaby too.

Unfortunately, it's not a tune that can be easily identify as 1812 is. In any case, I feel it's related to a specific life I had in Wales, when I used to sing it to my children as well...

I've just spent an hour reading in the archives and also finished this thread. There's some really gripping stories here.

I wouldn't call them "triggers" exactly because they don't produce visions or regressions, but I have always had some inexplicable reactions to:

  • European train whistles. They curdle my blood. I have no problem at all with US trains... only that very eerie European kind.
  • Stands of birch trees. They make me sad.

On a different note, there are some everyday things that I have always had a strange reaction to:

  • Clean water. I am always grateful when I turn on the tap and fresh water comes out. I never take it for granted. I grew up in New England where there was never a shortage of clean mountain water. It's a bit like the story posted about being grateful for butter.
  • Soap. I have to have lots of it in storage and every time I wash my hands and face, without fail, I give thanks. I love soap.
  • Food. I've never been without it but I never take it for granted. I have extreme empathy/sympathy for anyone who experiences hunger. I can barely stand the thought of it.
  • Books and stationary. I love bookstores and nothing makes me happier than a brand new notebook. I have trouble controlling my impulse to stockpile paper and pens. Again, no history of any sort of shortages in this lifetime.

So... how weird am I? I suspect that I fear/cherish these things because of past life experiences. There's really nothing in my current life to account for it.

During the years that I worked in Manhattan, I did a lot of walking around the city. Actually, I marched. Everywhere I went, I imagined that I was marching to the sound of pipes and drums. I'm a little embarrassed about it, because it seems so childish and...well...crazy! I guess I was creating my own triggers. Nothing else works as well as pipes and drums.

-Nightrain

Me too. I was drawn to it even when I was a little boy in Detroit. What is your favorite part of NYC?

-Nightrain

I just remembered something that I've somehow forgotten to mention on this Forum before, when it comes to my own memory triggers, though I'm a little reluctant to talk about it, because at least in my own mind, it sounds kind of weird...Sometimes when I'm meditating, I get this image of a highly-polished, round, and not very small teapot in my head. I'm never sure of what sort of surface the teapot is resting on, whether it be a table - which sometimes I think it must be, because when I try to continue with the meditation, I occasionally think that I can make out something of a lace tablecloth underneath the teapot, though I'm not completely sure about that, either - and I have no idea of what sort of previous lifetime memories of such a teapot could have originated in. But anyway, the teapot in my meditations always looks just the same, very pretty and coloured a vibrant cherry-red. I Googled ''red teapot'' a few minutes ago and found this picture of a very similar teapot:

jst_red.jpg

I've never owned, or known anyone to own, a red teapot, and so I don't know why I remember having one like that. Anyway, my point is that seeing round teapots - not the tall, narrow kind or any other variety - always seems to trigger memories for me that are deeper and darker and more vague than probably anything else I can recall from past lives. I don't know what it means, if it means anything. But it interests me.

Nightrain...I loved nyc as a little girl too...it was always a magic place for me...my parents were very big on taking us to the theater and I loved it! Today, I can't say I have a favorite place but there are times, walking through sheep meadow in the last glow of a spring day, st marks place with the snow falling, that bring me back to that special feeling. Oh wait, I do have one place I am drawn to....st john the divine...I took some classes at columbia once and I was completely drawn to this church, so much so that I researched it, when I stand in the apse I feel I can get in touch with the infinite.

I am very tied to place, which I wonder if others on this forum experience as well...I can't live just anywhere.

Raakel, interestng trigger, but what I really want to know is where cam I get that tea pot....it is super cute:-)

Raakel, that is probably the cutest trigger I've ever heard of :D

Obviously such tea pots could come from anywhere and don't really have any knowledge of tea-drinking in other countries, but those types of tea pots are very ordinary in Scandinavia (my mother alone has two or three, not in red though) :D . Also the lace could be a clue.

Or perhaps the real clues to the red teapot are in those memories it triggers. How do you feel when you see it?
