Have you heard about the "Life After Death Project" documentary? Technology has finally reached the point where the deceased are able to manipulate it.
X's cousin is staying at my place, in my spare room, for a few days while we sort things out. His cousin is a lot like him. Spookily in some ways. My kids came to visit a couple of nights ago and I had to warn them not to get a start when they saw the cousin sitting in X's accustomed chair. He's not X, but it's rather comforting to have him around to talk to in the evenings.Blueheart said:What! What?! No no no no no. I was hoping for some futuristic gadget or something. I have no words . . .
The synchronicity struck me later when I got home. The same room where we'd had so much fun before, with the windows covered, as though in mourning, with fine translucent material, the rectangular pattern. Strange the coincidences that occur.I noticed more details - the hangings on the windows of some 'gauzy' fabric may have been crepe de chine, which darkened the room without blacking it out. I noticed these curtains had folds in them, as though they'd been stored in a box and recently pulled out and hung up ... I had the impression that all this mourning stuff had only recently been hastily unpacked and put up perhaps just that morning (hence the creases in the curtains).
We made a wonderful job of X's send off. The local crew, all X's and my friends, rallied round and helped. Even the mysterious Y turned up. Together with X's cousin we put it all together with joy and laughter, sorrow and soul. There was poetry, there were stories, there were memories and tears. Lots of people came.Blueheart said:When you have run out of things to do and his family members have all gone home, we will still be here...

I am often right (even when I'm wrong).tanguerra said:My view (always the romantic) was that unrequited/unreturned love is the most painful experience, but I was wrong. I think the worst is when someone just disappears and you never know what happened to them.
So, if I am feeling a bit hard done by, I comfort myself with the knowledge that things could be a lot worse and get on with my 'lesson' so I don't have to go through all this again. I am teaching him about love, trust and constancy by example. I am learning love without desire in exchange. It's a fair cop.

Thanks S&S. I know, although it's scant comfort right now.SeaAndSky said:... the time when you will look across a room and suddenly recognize X, smiling back at you....
He may play the jack of diamonds
He may lay the queen of spades
He may conceal a king in his hand
While the memory of it fades
I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart
